flood and oil clean-up

Disaster Response

In Oklahoma, we have going through some major flooding.  Flooding rain water is coming from Kansas.  On the news last night, they said the flood waters had risen inside of an oil refinery.  The water is now laced with oil.  They are predicting that as the water continues to rise the water will flow into the river and be headed straight for the drinking waters of Tulsa (a very large city in Oklahoma.)  I have ideas on the debris that is floating in our area lake and river but does anyone have any ideas on how to get the oil off of the top of the drinking water before it reaches Tulsa?

I did a quick search on it

I did a quick search on it and came up with this result: http://library.thinkquest.org/10867/cleanup/methods/index.shtml

It's worth checking out, because you have a quite a few options.

bioremediation

Bioremediation
Is the only way I have ever heard to get oil out of a sensitive environment without damaging it. They are basically bacteria that eat oil and then die/leave when there isn't anymore oil to eat.

No clue how you would go about doing it though. Would check out this .gov site: http://water.usgs.gov/wid/html/bioremed.html
