d.a.r.e

Drug Abuse

hey yall i just wanted to say if you are in 6th grade you should join d.a.r.e its a fun club where you learn about drugs and stuff.....the only wayyou can join if you write a d.a.r.e report......and if you dont you can't graduate yep yep "YOU CANT" so let me tell you what d.a.r.e stands for D-DRUGS A-ABUSE R-RESISTANCE E-EDUCATION so i just wanted togive a little shout explaining to yall why you should join dare to get yall to stay in school, watch out for people whose trying to introduce yall into drugs,self-control and many many more........ SO JOIN DARE IT'S THE BEST THINGTHAT WILL KEEP YOU SAYING "NO"TO DRUGS

DARE Proven ineffective

Since 2001 DARE has been classified by the U.S Surgeon General as "ineffective", yet it continues to recieve upwards of 1.3 billion dollars a year. Studies have shown that DARE has no effect on drug use.
Students in urban communities where distrust of the police is high experience a negative impact from the DARE program. Police Officers are not licensed teachers, the thought that a Police Officer can do the same job as a certified Health Education Specialist is ignorant.
As for those who sight, "It worked for me", you were never an at risk population. Visitors to dosomething.org are motivated young people who already have the resolve to resist drugs. Also, exit surveys (testifying that you wont use drugs right after going through the DARE program), are not a true reflection of future behavior. Follow up long term studies are needed, and these studies conclude DARE is ineffective.

Agreed

I agree with that, good to learn when they're young like that so they hopefully wont make the famous mistakes teens now make, and thats being curious and trying them.

they both are cool

i think that D.A.R.E and G.R.E.A.T are both two very well organized communite...
They both prevent children at a young age to say no to drugs...I believe that
more 4th,5th and 6th graders should take advantage of this,so that they could make a better future.

I joined DARE in 4th grade

I joined DARE in 4th grade and I am still in it. Smiling I even have "Darren the Lion" from 4th grade.

DARE doesn't work. Sorry.

DARE doesn't work. Sorry. Ever since dare started drug use of teenagers has rose... dont be stupid, dare is just a way to make the good kids in 5th grade feel good about themselves for not lighting up a j yet.... give them time, our tax dollars used on these stupid programs are making our kids feel good, only for them to be stoners later in life. Way to go dare people, feel important about yourself and shut up.

i did dare last year this

i did dare last year this year i did great. jpgorak told you already. i think its something new for 6th graders. and its probably just in davidson county.

Re: d.a.r.e

I've never heard of it either, I was wondering the same thing.

Re: d.a.r.e

How come I've never heard of GREAT before??? Is it new or just in your area, state, etc?

Re: d.a.r.e

thats really cool

Re: d.a.r.e

I did DARE in 5th grade, and i wrote a report and stuff, but this year(6th grade) we are doing GREAT which is:

Gang
resistance
education
and
training

It is just like dare but more focused on gang related activities!

Re: d.a.r.e

okay i think d.a.r.e. is a good way to get informed, because we used to have d.a.r.e. officers come talk to our classes in fifth & seventh grade. But i think its up to the individual to decide where theyre going to take their life. my sisters friends won the 'd.a.r.e. award' for being the person who knew the most or something...i'm not really sure what it was for. Anyway, now hes on drugs. it's good to be informed, but no matter how many times someone says 'drugs are bad...you will die...they ruin families...etc.' kids want to make their own mistakes. they're naturally curious and although believing isnt seeing, sometimes they feel like they know everything and they have to see it for themselves to believe that bad things happen. i'm not on drugs but my dad is so i already know how much it can do to a family, and even an individual.

Re: d.a.r.e

yeah I know...........

Re: d.a.r.e

Ushergirl, let's not bark up the wrong tree. She just wants to get D.A.R.E out in the open which is good because it has seemed to fall in the background in the past years. Anyway, thanks Ranika for bringing that up!!! Smiling

Re: d.a.r.e

I'm well aware of what D.A.R.E. is. And I didnt graduate or even join it, now I'm 16 years old and still saying no to drugs! There are many other reasons and ways to say no to drugs other than joining D.A.R.E.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
