Recycled Holiday Gifts

Recycling

Okay So I know most of the time 'recycled gifts' can come off as lame or cheap. But does anyone have any good ideas for turning a certain type of junk (or something unused) into something that makes an awesome present? I actually found this place that rebinds old weird books they find on the street but they add blank drawing paper and remove pages from the book. So it becomes like a notebook with part of a novel intermixed. Post your best ideas!

My mom loves to read and write so shed love those books, i'd hope they make sure they are dry and mold free and disinfected though before selling them, it's tough to find unique mothers day gifts when everything in all the local stores is the same thing

The paint chip wallets are an investment, but they're awesome. Plus, Nara, the woman who puts them together, is SO nice . . . if you want to splurge a little for an eco-friendly present, that's an excellent choice.

Re: Recycled Gifts

I went to and found some cool recycled gifts. I particularily like the album cover sketch books and purses made out of old lisence plates! I also love the paint chip wallets that were featured in the last issue of BUILD magazine! There are definitly ways to give gifts that are of benefit to the enviornment and others. Also, insted of giving gifts, another solution is to give eco-friendly cards and make a charitable donation (because who really needs more knick-knacks?)

The Bicycle:

Riding a bicycle benefits not only the individual riding it, but also the surrounding environment. The bicycle is practical and clean.

Furthermore, there is amazing practicality in the used parts of a bicycle. Instead of throwing these parts away, they can be used to make other items like oil lamps, incense burners, fishing poles, and more.

The Common Public Service Agency (CPSA) manages the Just Know Why initiatve and the Pragmatic Art Series. Recycled art is also a part of the CPSA's efforts. You can see products like the ones mentioned above on the CPSA's website.

For policy purposes, the website cannot be cited here. But if you go to Do Something's Myspace page, and look for Just Know Why in the Friends category, you can find more information.

I can't think of any cool gifts like that right now, but those notebooks sound awesome!! Where can you get/order them?
