self abuse

Mental Health

if anyone has anything to say about self abuse...please do. i know how much it sucks when you cant talk to anyone about it, even your friends.

Out of all the causes on

Out of all the causes on these boards, suicide and self-abuse are two that I feel most strongly about. Now, i'm a libertarian and moral relativist, and I support the right of anyone to commit suicide. If you don't have control over your own life, then what DO you have? Its been argued that many who commit suicide really aren't in control of themselves, and that is true, but I think the line is so blurred in regards to that that it is safer to give them the benefit of the doubt.

However, NO ONE will fight harder than I to stop them. I have stopped a suicide before. I have stopped multiple people from cutting....at least temporarily.

I'd say the most important ways to influence them is to notice, to care, to be realistic and brutally honest, and not to baby them. Its a fine line to walk.

Why is this not a cause?

I recently joined and was looking through the causes...but I didn't see anything on self-abuse/suicide. What's up with that?

This is an issue I feel strongly about. I've had friends 'try' it just for the sake of trying it and it scares me. It's such a huge issue but it's so secret. No one talks about it. Everyone's afraid of something. Awesome cause: To Write Love On Her Arms

Throw your dirty laundry somewhere else. We ask that you don't curse or use other inappropriate language here (if you have to think too hard about using a word, you probably shouldn't). This is a forum for the exchange of positive ideas, not a place to gang up on others or make anyone feel bad. Feeling good is good, right? Yup. Also, for your own safety, we ask that you don't post personal information about yourself or where you live on these boards. Please follow these simple and important rules or you WILL be voted off the island. Okay, to clarify, here’s the…Don’t DO It Checklist (for our Message Boards):
