I am 14 years old and I enjoy smoking every now and then.

I no why i first had weed. Its because of all the good sories about it and how it is so much fun. After i had try it i found out it was true and it creates so many great times with my mates.

First, I would like to state that not every drug user out there does what they do just because they want to fit in or by peer pressure.

Some teens "abuse" drugs because of the fun in it. If you haven't noticed there isn't really much teens can do with 10 bucks now days. It's cheaper/more fun to just buy a dime and chill with friends. I personally would rather sit back with friends in a nice safe area, smoke a joint, watch a movie and eat everything there is to eat in the pantry than go out, drive around and see what trouble-causing things we can do just to have fun.

Haven't you ever wanted to try something you know that was dangerous and could possibly leave you physically and mentally destroyed, lets say like sky-diving or scuba-diving or just climb the highest mountain ever? Yeah, well same thing with teens and drugs, an adrenaline rush is just another way of getting high. How do you know if you will enjoy something unless you do try it. For some people it becomes addicting, for others it's stupid and not for them. I bet alot of you play(ed) WOW or been to Myspace before, addicting isn't it? Few claim it is like a drug, can't get away, you enjoy it too much to leave it. Same thing.

A lot of people in the world need help, they want to kill themselves because nothing makes them happy or they don't think they will amount to anything in life, so they might turn to drugs. Drugs can make you see the good things in life, even if you have a horrible experience with them. The effects that drugs have on people can make them go to their own Narnia or fairy tale, and make them see that they can live happily, even if it means you might lose your life sooner or later. I'd have to say if I had to choose between being miserable and not wanting to live anymore than realizing that there can be such happiness in my life and risk my life just to be happy, I'd be a sucker for happiness. Atleast I would realize that I did die happy, I did actually leave the world on good terms, even though it might of been a bad reason for dying, I was happy when I left. I know somewhere in your mind that you would want to die happy also.

I really can't think of anything else to say. I know this sounds like I am mainly siding with drug abuse being ok, but truely to me it is, technically not the "abuse" but the use of drugs. There is worse things to be addicted too. You can't mainly focus on the bad things about drug abuse, there always is a bright side of things. Well atleast that is how I live my life.

Well I know people who do it. One of my old friends still does it and she's stopped and then went back. She's been in a situation where she lost her boyfriend, she lost her friends, everything. She's a wealthy girl, but she does pot and drinks but there's nothing I can do about it. She's not a good influence though, she could be for young girls as I had stated before she should become an advocate for young girls but she hasn't said anything about it to me. But you see on the news, Lindsay Lohan who is very wealthy and she's been doing coke (bad influence). I don't think passing laws is going to help, it's just going to make the cause worse. Friends can help by putting their two sense in and stepping up. When I was friends with her (my friend), I never did anything with her. I always told myself that I am never going to smoke or drink and I never have ever while I've been in middle/high school. Teens go through so many problems in our society today. It's unbelievable.

Dozens of reasons: my parents are going through a divorce, my brother was in an accident, my grades are slipping, he/she broke up with me, I got into a fight, I'm sick of my "boring life" and the hackneyed, "everyone was doing it."

BUT. The point is not WHY? The point is that this issue exists, people- especially younger generations- are developing a love, a need, an obsession with drugs as if in nostalgia of the drug filled 1970s. The truth? I doubt there will ever exist a world without drugs in schools and in the back of dark alleyways. That's life. There's an entire "underground" market of buyers, who profit from the needy addicts.

There's really no way to stop, unless the person sees first hand a tragic ending or a serious event that occurs in result of drugs and then, only then, will that person consider putting away the "dope" once and for all. Depressing, but a repeated fact.

me and my wife are a young couple. we got married about 2 years ago and had our first son about 4 months ago. and i am going to tell you that my wife smoked pot the whole time she was pregnant and it cause her to have premature labor. 3 months premature. i am so thankful that he came out really healthy and only had to stay for 2 weeks in the hospital after birth. but that me and my wife werent so lucky. when she went in she didnt know that you get a drug test the first night there and she came up hot on thc. has harmless as you think it is we got into alot of troble for that. we were reported to child services and went thou that crap for 3 months before they let her off. she had to go to so many classes and she said it was not forth it. i can say thou she smoked because i am in the army and i was away from her almost the entire pregnancy and she said she was depressed. take it from someone who went though it that it aint worth it. if you have more questions you can e-mail me at

you know when i was in school i started smoking pot because all the cool kids was doing it. so i thought doing it myself would make me cool too. and you know for a while it did. then i started buying and selling and trafficing. i did that just to have more friends and be that much cooler. but it took me getting busted with 3 five pound bricks before i realized that it wasnt cool. i found out that the friends that i thought i had was not there anymore. i spent 2 years in juvie and ended up dropping out of school. you all want to know what why kids do drugs in school. its because they are looking to be popular.

I believe the reason so many young people turn to drugs is really due to the fact that they have nothing better to do. Someone who is consistantly invovled in their community, doing something they are passionate about, wont succumb to such temptations as drug use. If there was a place were they could hang out and get invovled, they would have no time for such dangerous escapades.

You can quit you know, if you want to. And yes if you're pregnant, its probably not a good idea to smoke.....Although my mom smoked the whole entire time she was pregnant with me, and I turned out just fine. Its entirely up to you and what you want to do.

Back to niase, drugs, even if only used once in a while can still have a dramatic effect. Many teens also die from allergic reactions or go into shock when using drugs for the first time. We had a case here in my city where a kid died when getting high off of inhalants and sniffing hair spray. These are cases that aren't heard of much, but do exist. Anyway, just because your drink or smoke doesn't make those people who are sober 24/7 are better. We all have to experience life and we're all victims of its gifts and faults. We just need to make the right choice for ourselves, but remain open-mindeed!!!

I think it's a really complicated question with a lot of things contributing to youth drug abuse. I think some youth do drugs because they are bored, some because their friends do drugs, they are having some kind of personal problem with family, friends, or boyfriend or girlfriend, maybe youth saw their parents do drugs and so they thought they would also. If anyone thinks youth drug use is a problem, I think you should take action. In some communities drug use contributes to dropping out of high school, not going to college, and thus reducing the number of choices a person has in life. This organization, Youth Venture, helps youth, 12-20, create their own organization or project that improves something in their community. Perhaps some people want to start some kind of organization that helps teens with drug addiction or educates youth on the dangers of using illegal drugs. I've never dealt with drugs personally, but I've dealt with, and am still dealing with, drug addicts.

I think it's important to trust those who have actually encountered and dealt with both drug addicts and the drugs themselves, over those who have not and are merely spouting rhetoric.

Actually usher girl.... it doesnt fry brain sells, BARS, Opium, pcp, lsd, meth, cocain, all that shit does. But good old thc /aka/ marijuana, doesnt kill ANY brain cells, but it DOES deprive oxygen to some of the brain cells, temporarly intoxicating them. Actually, your ignorance demostrates your age very well. One joint, cannot kill you. It is not possible and has NEVER killed ANYBODY! Also, marijuana, isnt addictive, maybe on a sycological state, but even then, the effects of the addiction are more to selfishness, not a physical dependancy. I know this from personal experiance, and from studies that support such. Even then, the effects of smoking... anything for that matter, 1 time, or even a year for that. Hardly reduces your life expectancy at all, the long term effects of smoking are actually what kills everyone. Open your mind, stop consuming yourself with laws and regulations, you think people who smoke marijuana safely and responsibly are the ones killing people? no. its the drug dealers and meth trades that cause most of the deaths. If god does exist....

diase-actually one joint could. it may be through a chain of events but it could kill you. smoking one could lead to another and another until you become addicted and can't stop and kill yourself through lung cance or even too much smoke inhalation. if its not prescribed, you could get arrested and sent to jail and rot their depending on how much you had with you. heck, even having it can kill you, like drug dealers who say i didn't smoke any, i just sale for money. don't you watch the news where police arrest people for having marijna in their truck or house? why don't YOU put things into perspective?

That's good. James Frey puts it well. There are a lot of good points on here -- also a lot of bad ones. There's that (what was said by James Frey), and there's the old-aged issue of "peer pressure" (which we all know too well); there's plain old anger angst & apathy, which arouses in us the desire to contradict oneself... It's self-destruction, and there are so many psychological reasonings and validations for that. Of course, sometimes it is just for fun. There are a ton of reasons. But when you bring up aspect of their acknowledgement to its dangers and the harm they're doing to themselves, then it implies something of a deeper psychological matter.

I would like to shift this argument away from whether or not it is or isn't a fun experience to do drugs. It is completely based on personal opinion and lifestyle choices - which doesn't make for a great debate.

The fact is that it is illegal and about 1 out of every 5 prisoners in the U.S. are there because of drug charges both small and large.
We can all agree that:
1. Illegal Drugs and illegal use of drugs can land you in jail - ruining many young people's lives
2. The long term effects of Drugs are undeniably harmful.

The question: How do we reduce the damage caused by drugs in young people?

To answer your question, being very religious, and living my life according to the Bible, so Yes I would smoke pot, if it asked me to in the Bible. But it doesn't, so I don't. I've also had bad family experiences with drugs and alcohol. I don't see a problem with an occasional drink, as long as you don't get carried away. Its true I've never been high or drunk, so I don't know from personal experience what it does to the person's body. What exactly the feelings are, I can only guess. My sister is addicted to drugs and an alcoholic. She's currently 38, and has been doing these things since she was about 18. She has caused great problems for my family and still continues to do so. I've also seen the life she's created for herself, and what she's done to her kids. So I personally don't want to live my life that way. Seeing how she lives her life and what she's done in order to constantly stay high (she does heroin and cocaine) and drunk all the time, yeah its kinda effected me alot. I have alot of negative feelings about it, and it bothers me to see others destroy their lives with it, when they can be helped. I try to help others the best I can, especially when it comes to kicking drugs and alcohol habits.

What if you found something in the bible that told you... every month you are required to smoke marijuana to put life in perspective... why are their drugs that attack the brain directly... and no other organ... could it be possible their here for a reason????? Other animals that do the drugs are reported to have high concentrations of it in their livers, kidnys, ext... but rarely is it soley concentrated in the brain... why is it that some drugs though... only attack the human brain... and no other organ.... could there be a reason for this? some trail left by a god?

We live one time... It depresses me to know that some people will live their intire lives sober... thinking their somehow above everyone else.
To those of you who have never needed drugs, how do you know what its like? All you see is the person on the outside destroying themselves, and then find some self rightousness withen yourself to....make a cause to stop teens using drugs. I'm here to tell you first hand... drugs are not as bad as the world makes them, its the people doing the drugs who get to carried away with it and stop careing. We live one time, how are we to be sure occasionally smoking some weed or drinking so liquor isn't whats good for us? It puts life in perspective, and if when I'm 80, i die of lung cancer because I occasionally smoke, who cares... I want to live my life, and so do millions of other teenagers. Its like were getting out alive.
I'm here to tell you, while drunk or high, you experiance something that is like a more primative form of consiousness, and I assure you its probably the most gratifying experiance one can endure. Maybe rather than focus on how to stop people from doing drugs, why not offer safe ways to do them, preach safe drug use, and moderation. Because the quit technech is quite working now is it?

We take drugs because, in the short term, they're fun. The problem only arises when you slowly start to sacrifice the rest of your life in order to preserve your drug habit.

There's nothing wrong with doping up a few times. The problem arises when it becomes a habit, because there is NOTHING you won't do at some point to keep yourself in drugs.

Sometimes its because of peer pressure, sometimes its because they are trying to look cool. I wish I knew why too. All I know is people should NOT listen to people like "pilmboy" because he doesn't know what he's talking about!!!!
