Umm...This is a little awkward...

Healthy Eating

Ok, I know this board is about healthy eating, so I was just wondering... Umm... Well, I overeat a lot, and I don't know how to stop. I haven't told my family about it, and nobody really knows because I'm skinny. I do gymnastics 16 hours a week so I exercise a lot and burn off all the over-eaten calories. I was wondering if anyone knew any tips or help to stop me from overeating so much? It's not so bad on school days because I never bring a big lunch. On weekends though, I always overeat, and I wish I could stop, but I'm not sure how. Could someone(s) plese help me?

It looks like you are having

It looks like you are having an eating disorder and I don't think you should keep this a secret. If things are getting as serious as you said, your parents should know about this so you get proper help.

some tips

i think the hotline would be best... professional help is essential if you believe you have a problem...

But I don't think that you have a problem... overeating is not a medical condition I don't think. Anyways, if your doing gymnastics 16 hrs a week, you do need a lot of calories. If you want to eat less, first try changing what you eat to nutritional and less calorie dense foods. Also, drink water more often (of course not excessively). You should also eat consistently and often throughout the day rather than large meals.

hope this helps

You just described exactly

You just described exactly my problem.

I am also extremely athletic and have a very athletic body. I bring the smallest of lunches to school, and teach anyone of my friends who ask "how I do it" (they mean stay so fit) but then at home I will just keep eating a bunch of different things, but cant stop.

It depends on what you are eating, but usually it is because of a chemical in your brain (some call it the "addictive" chemical) that beings your mind back to something tasty that you ate however long ago, and starts craving it again

What I realize, is that I only wanted the tase of it. if I really need that tast I will take a bite, then spit it into a napkin, and then chew a piece of gum, or drink water. This always helps.
I AM NOT telling you to spit out all the food you eat, but just take a bite and then spit it out and odds are you won' want it again tell a long time after.

Why are you eating?

I have spent most of my life dealing with an eating disorder. I finally found help and compassion in the 12 step rooms of Over eaters Annonymous. It is the same program as Alcoholics Annouymous, but for food problems, overeating, anorexia, bulimia, binging, over exercising, etc...

there are meetings all over the country and world. go to

you can find meetings and information about many problems. There is help, no need to be alone.

You're healthy!

it sounds to me as if youre a perfectly healthy human being, no worries, give yourself a break

some suggestions

Well i think your fine. I dance and take martial arts as well as doing running and stretching regularly. As long as you arent gaining weight I think you're okay with the amount of food you eat. But it also depends on what you are eating, if its all junk food i'd try replacing the junk with healtier options like instead of a bag of potato chips try some hard pretzels. or yogurt. or fruit it will give you more energy and it still tastes good! If you find yourself hungry but you know you shouldn't eat try drinking a cup of water, which will trick your stomach into thinking its full. or you could excersise if your in frontof the tv and you find yourself eating just because its something to do not because your actually hungry. just do a couple of pushups! hope it helps

you are fine

this is perfectly normal. you have nothing to worry about,as long as your weight is proportionate you will be fine.you must have a very high metabolism and it is great that to exercise, as long as you are happy there is nothing to worry about.

I hope I can help!

Well I'm not really sure of your conditions since I don't know your exact eating habits. If you are eating when you are hungry, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you're eating for the sake of eating when you aren't hungry just stop and think. It doesn't sound like you have a major issue, so don't worry too much about it. Since you're a gymnast and you're skinny it doesn't seem like it's causing a physical problem. However, make sure you aren't pigging out on unhealthy stuff like Mc Donald's, cupcakes, and fried twinkies. I'm not a major health food addict, but try eating healthy stuff like fruit and thick granola bars (I reccommend Kashi) when you feel hungry because they fill you up and they're good for you too. I'm sure you're eating relatively healthy since you're a gymnast and all, but I hope my advice helps.

Your not Alone! :-)

I'm a really active excerciser, and I go to the gym daily as well as running up to 14 miles weekly. I always thought I was an 'over-eater', because I eat whenever I'm bored. I know it's a bad habit, but as long as you're burning the calories, it isn't really unhealthy. In fact, I realized that I NEED to eat that much or else I'll get tired and lethargic halfway throughout the day.

u

im in gymnastics to and i am also very skinny but im a vegertian to it is a lot of work we do u really dont need to worry unless u cram 4 cupcakes a day just take things slow and if u think ur overeating what i do is get up and go run

Re:

When you feel hungry, try

When you feel hungry, try using Crest White Strips. You can't eat with them on plus you brighten your smile. If you're not overweight I wouldn't worry about overeating though. I have done gymnastics training for the past eight months for cheerleading and even though it makes you hungry, it burn calories and tones muscles.

Dido

I know what you mean! Sometimes I can go through a whole bag of snacks without even realizing it. I try to brush my teeth after meals to prevent me from snacking. Also, chewing gum sometimes helps!

I just never feel very

I just never feel very hungry and I still eat. In fact, I don't feel hungry at all, but you may be right. I just may be hungry and not know it. Thanks!

What makes you think you're

What makes you think you're overeating? You have an extremely active lifestyle and aren't gaining any weight, so in all likelyhood you're just eating the right amount.

Back when I worked at a fast food restaurant, worked out every day, and did martial arts 3 days a week, I was hungry literally every hour of every day. I ate breakfast, lunch, 2 dinners, and as much food at work as I could scrounge up. Did I gain any weight? Except for muscle from weightlifting, no. After I left the restaurant, stopped martial arts, and slowed the weightlifting down I wasn't hungry nearly as often. I had a Slimfast for breakfast, a lunch, and one dinner with few snacks. On weekends, sometimes I'd only eat one meal. Now that I'm working again and starting to do more physical activites like TaeKwon Do and jogging, I'm starting to eat more as well.

So the fact that you're hungry and eating a lot is a good thing! It means that you're working yourself hard.
