If anyone is intersted in having a canned food drive at school I have some suggestions. My school recently had a food drive and the amount of canned goods collected was UNBELIEVABLE! They didn't announce the total yet, but i saw the cans stacked up and it was amazing. Ok, so each third period teacher was given a box and an announcement was made every day to bring in cans to your third period class. The third period class that ended up with the most cans by the end of the week would win a breakfast party. It's simple - but boy did it work! Some of the classes started a friendly competition and the kids really got into it. Kids were running back and forth between rooms and telling their friends to bring in more cans the next day. It was really sweet. Some of the seniors pooled their money and made a run to the grocery store after school one day. I really suggest this method to create a little bit of an incentive and to make for a fun collection week!

My school: Washington Street School in Franklin Square, New York held a food drive too. We called it the SOUP-er bowl in celebration of the Super Bowl. We collected 3 barrells of food and donated it to Long Island Cares. We also had football activities in honor of the Super SOUP-er Bowl. It was fun and painless. We hope we reached the 1 ton mark.
Thanks thats a good idea.
