-- Do you think a school official (teacher, principal, etc.) should be allowed to bring a gun to school for safety reasons? Well one teacher in Oregon thinks that she should be able to bring a gun to school for her safety and her students teacher. Now she's suing the school district because of this. What do you think about this issue?

Listen to facts concerning concealed weapons.
Let me ask all of you people who are against the teacher something? What gun law does a criminal obey? The answer is not a single one. If someone is planning on shooting up a classroom like VT, do you think that person is going to think “Aww, I wanted to kill a bunch of people today but, by law, I’m not allowed to carry a gun on campus”?
That is the mentality of gun control. It serves absolutely no purpose what-so-ever. The only people who are going to obey gun laws, are law abiding people. What do we (you) have to fear when you’re dealing with a law abiding person? The answer is nothing!
The purpose of concealed carry is to have a weapon on you, in case something goes bad. In this case, a teacher would like to have a gun on his/her person should anything bad happen on school. The purpose isn’t to make the children afraid. In fact, the students should not even know that there is a weapon inside the classroom. By law, the teacher would have to have the weapon ON his/her person. This means secured in a holster or in a pocket.
But wait… Schools are gun free zones right? Nothing bad can happen. WRONG! They (gun free zones) are victim rich zones. Bad people know that there is no one there who can defend themselves, except a couple of School Resource Officers. My high school covered about 15 acres and had a student body of about 2500 students and 1 resource officer. How in the world can you expect that SRO to be everywhere, all the time, to protect everyone. It is an impossible task and just cannot be done. Have you not noticed the 3 latest “mass shooting sprees” have been committed in these “gun free zones”. Those gun laws sure do work great… for the shooter. There was almost a 4th but a person with a concealed carry permit stopped the shooter before he could do any harm (the Church shooting a couple months back).
Laws concerning Concealed Carry vary state by state. Most states require the applicant to attend a class, take a test, gun qualification and pass a back ground check. The fact is; people who have a concealed carry permit are the most upstanding, law abiding people around.
If I recall, from FBI reports, only .01% of concealtd carry permits are ever revoked due to violations… That’s 1 in 10,000. It’s important to note that all violations are violent felonies. For example if I get too may traffic violations, I will have to forfeit my permit.
All this talk of “guns are dangerous” and “kids will have easy access” is coming from people who have no knowledge of firearms and laws pertaining to their use with regards to self defense. The comments are plain nonsense and based on an irrational fear of firearms.
wow
ok wow intresting topic but a good one. I think the teacher should be allowed to have the gun i would feel safer in school i go to a high school of almost 1800 students we have 21 moble units and only one campus officer. we have fights almost every day that lead to some one stabbing some one or some one in the hospital. I am waiting for the day some one to bring a gun to school and start shooting. Am i scared no i aint the reason is i have faith in were i am going.
ok going to the vt thing that was tragic yes very but why and how is it so different than collimbine or other school shootings. Here is why the shooter shot in more than one building. the campus police had time to react and didnt, professers that was world known shot, (biggest key here) the va laws basically allowed it i say this becasue before this shooting you didnt not have to have permits to own a hand gun or have to have back ground checks in my state you do and for any gun you do. ok enough with that.
right to bare arms i think it is only right for any one int he country to bare arms with laws in place go look at the Nc. state laws for gun control very affective if you ask me.
Yes i hunt every year and most every day i eat any thing i shoot that is how i was raised, so some one raised different raised with almost no parents or some that ignored him will think different. Kids being raised around violence only knows it it is programmed in there head. In turn makes the kid in any situation resort to violence.
Big ? is can we completely prevent shootings in schools or other places. No because we are free wheeled and if people with good intintions didnt have guns to defend them self only the ones wanting to kill would because they will get them from gun dealers around the world.
(sorry for grammar errors and spelling errors)

Guns are dangerious
Having a gun in a classroom is dangerious. If a student finds out you have it and they were planning on shooting someone, they now have the ability to steal a gun quite easily.
Unreasonable
I think that is absurd. The Second Amendment needs to be revised to keep up with the times. Weapons too often get into the wrong hands, and it's extremely difficult to spell out terms case-by-case in law. If safety is truly an issue in that school district, then the teacher should bring it up. She gives up certain rights when she enters the school environment. This is not the street.
obey the law!
i dont think thats right at all! nobody besides a police officer should be allowed in school grounds! at lest were i live ur not allowed to bring any wepon around,in,or by school grounds.thats what my father has told me sence him & my brother have a consealed wepons permit they have to follow the rules so should that priceable what makes her so diffrent from obeying the law?
Right to Self Defense
The oldest right and an unwritten law is the right to defend oneself and property against attack. The right to bear arms is a part of this right which should be respected and upheld by all citizens.
Carrying a weapon is essential to self protection in these times of violence.
I don't think so
i believe that if your school has campus security. they are the only ones that carry guns in the school. because in my school they are police officers when they aren't working at my high school or they were former police officers.
Gun Control
I do not think the ANYONE should be allowed to carry a gun on to ground where others lives are at risk. The fact that people are even thinkings about this is crazy thought to me.
Faculty carrying Guns
God,no! No member of any school should be allowed to carry ammunitions! What on Earth is wrong with that woman?!?! In my locale, there is a school that has a uniformed Police Officer patroling its halls during school hours. I am not sure if he carrys a gun, probably does. If anyone, he is the one who should only have a gun on or near the school ... any school, anywhere.
Gun control
Supposedly the teacher requested that she be able to carry a gun because of her ex-husband has a tendency for violence. Do you guys think that justifies her request?
In the meantime, we still
In the meantime, we still have our presidential elections going on. I support Hillary Clinton, no questions asked please haha but I just want to say that this is a problem that we're currently facing in America. It is unnecessary for a teacher to bring a gun to school. My grandfather disagrees with me totally on gun control. He believes that he should be able to keep and bear arms. I disagree with him for many reasons, many people these days seem so ignorant to me! I can't stand it but this issue needs to be taken seriously before another Virginia Tech happens! I'm getting ready to head off to college and I'm scared more than ever because I just can't believed this happen so many months ago and it has affected so many people. Very intimidating once you think about it.
I feel no one should bring a
I feel no one should bring a gun to school. Even if you bring it for safety reason it still puts everyone in danger. I last thought we was trying to encourage non school violence.
The principal should or
The principal should or should not be allowed to carry a gun with him to school in accordance with the state's concealed carry laws. Assuming, of course, that he actually has a license.
The necessity of carrying a gun is not germane to this issue. His right to have a gun is; the law should be respected in this regard. I do not feel that it increases or decreases the level of fear or safety in the school for him to carry a gun.
I would not personally feel the need to carry one, but I support his right to do so. Especially in light of the Virginia Tech tragedy, where one brave citizen with a concealed carry license could have stopped or even prevented countless deaths, I think the debate on whether or not people should be allowed to carry guns is concluded.
My outlook? Criminals who intend to kill will carry guns whether or not it is legal. And we have no need to fear or restrict those who are responsible and legally allowed to hold weapons.
Exactly. I agree with you on
Exactly. I agree with you on that one. Nobody should be allowed to have a gun in the public whatsoever. I would be too afraid to even go to school. Also, if a kid went in the teacher's drawer, took it out, and pulled the trigger then there'd be more government involvement. Something needs to be done about this though!
I don't think anyone should
I don't think anyone should be legally available to have guns in public. What if one of the kids got their hands on their teachers guns? If kids knew teachers had guns, most would go to school in fear, which is the opposite of what their trying to achieve with this idea.
