So, since August there have been these protests against the Burmese government. The opposition to the government has mainly been led by students and opposition party activists (in response to the ruling junta to put a sanction on fuel subsidies). The protests have resulted in arrests (even students), killings, etc. Reuters from October 5, 2007 reports that some fifty students have been sentenced to five years hard labor. The Financial Times from September 27, 2007 reports that: "Soldiers fired both into the air and directly at students marching toward a high school in Tamwe township in Yangon. Primary school children were inside the school at the time and were reportedly hit by bullets, as were parents arriving to pick up their children. Unconfirmed eyewitness reports say 100 people were shot."I feel that punishing peaceful protesters is wrong to begin with, but when you start to punish students, that's really crossing the line. How dare the Myanmar junta sit in his lofty seat of power and commit these kinds of atrocities. The EU and UN have already put sanctions on the junta for this, but could that also be hurting the Burmese people? I don't know how we should handle this situation.. Does anyone have any ideas??
