The San Francisco Chronicle reports that China is furius that the Dalai Lama is receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor (the highest civic honor that Congress can bestow). China is upset because if His Holiness the Dalai Lama would be allowed (as he was) to speak to crowds in the US, then they would hear of how China is oppressing the people of Tibet. China has asked Bush not to allow His Holiness in the country, but Bush has refused. It's about time that Bush has done something right, for a change.I am very pleased with Bush's reaction to the Chinese government. I do not understand why the Chinese government doesn't want us to know that they're oppressing Tibet. They are apparently scared that their trade will suffer as a consequence, since the US is such a big buyer of Chinese exports, but China is one of the biggest players fueling the Sudanese government with their genocide. My personal view is that China is a ruthless and oppressive government that the US shouldn't support with all the business we give them. I also think that the 2008 Olympics should be held in Beijing because of these atrocities. Why should we award a country with the honor of hosting on of the only lasting global events? I'm glad the US has allowed the Dalai Lama to come here to air his grievances.
