If you guys haven't heard in the news, there is a big racism trial going on in the South. The case is being called the "Jena 6". What happened is in Jena, Louisiana, six black students were charged with beating a white student after nooses were hung on a tree on the high school campus (a reference to the segregationist era of racism). During the trial, the judge sent one of the boys to jail even though an appeal's court had thrown out his conviction trying the 17-year-old as an adult and the district attorney decided not to retry him as a juvenile.
It has been speculated that this is just a ploy to win Repulbican votes for 2008. Since there is so much anger at Bush for the handling of Hurrican Katrina, it seemed the 2008 would be a shoe-in for the Democrats in 2008. However, this can be seen as a tactic to confuse and win over racist voters in the South -- not just for the Louisiana Gubernatorial race, but also for the presidential races. Another despicable act by the GOP.
