OBESITY AND OVERWEIGHT CHILDREN
It has been an alarming increase in obesity and overweight among children.The change of life that has taken society both in their eating habits, such as physical activity is a major factor.
Children with obesity may suffer from hypertension, high cholesterol and insulin resistance from childhood or puberty and continue with the risk in the adult stage. In men, increases the risk of atherosclerosis, strokes at infarction, stroke, diabetes and colon cancer. Women on the other hand, are prone to suffer from degenerative arthritis, increased blood pressure in pregnancy and the predisposition of hip fractures.
Improving nutrition in children
Parents choose the times for meals, rather than children.
Provide a variety of nutritious foods such as fruit and conservation rather than food high in energy and low in nutrients as salty snacks, ice cream, fried foods, cookies and sweetened drinks.
Pay attention to portion size; Serve proportions appropriate for the size of children and their edad.ê
Using products daily without fat or low-fat as a source of calcium and protein.
Limiting refreshment or sedentary behaviors in response to boredom, and particularly restrict the use of sweetened drinks as a snack (eg, juice, soda, sports drinks)
Limit sedentary behavior, with no more than 1-2 hours a day of screen video / television and not put televisions in the rooms of children.
Allow self-regulation of the total caloric intake in the presence of BMI or normal weight for height.
Have regular family meals to promote social interaction and model the role of the behavior related to food.
