The academy award winning actress Charlize Theron and her Mom came out for an LGBT rights rally outside Fresno city hall in Fresno, CA Saturday.
The “Meet in the Middle for Equality” rally was in response to last week’s Supreme Court decision to uphold Proposition 8—the ban on gay marriage in the state of California. The crowd of 3,000 gathered around to hear speeches given by other Hollywood activists like Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight.
The actor told the crowd that Prop 8 had created three classes of people, the last and lowest consisting of the LGBT community who are not allowed the get married at all. “I was not going to stand for being a second-class citizen, and I'm sure as hell not going to be a third-class citizen!"
Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s speech echoed Harvey Milk’s message. "Be proud, come out, represent yourself and reach out to our brothers and sisters in other communities, especially those who may vote against us."
