During an experiment to assess the amount of electricity my home used, I noticed an abnormal statistic regarding our hair dryer. It used over a 1000 watts. 1125 to be exact. That means it uses more electricity than 11 Microsoft Xbox game consoles combined! Is it really worth using that much electricity to dry our hairs? It releases over 1500 Ib. of carbon dioxide into the air after just 10 minutes of use. I was hoping that my hair dryer was just a different brand that sucked more electricity than normal, but as I researched online, most hair dryers averaged out to 1500 watts. What if our country can use the hair dryer for a shorter period of time? Possible solutions would be that you dry up to a point where the natural air around you can finish drying your hair. I believe if we shortened the amount of time we use our hair dryers, not only will it benefit our environment and Global Warming, it will also save you a little bit of money. It will not be a significant number, probably $60-$100 a year, depending on how little you have used it. That money can definitely go to a better cause, such as the children of Uganda, the orphans in North Korea, or even the homeless shelter in your community. And that is a triple treat!
