Turn Out the Lights……for Earth’s Sake

Earth Day - Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 8-9 pm

LightsOut Akron is a community-wide Akron-pride event when residents, businesses and governments will turn off non-essential lighting for 1 hour. This simple action will help us all be more aware of how easy it is to reduce our energy usage and help cut carbon emissions (the cause of climate change) without noticeably affecting our lifestyles.

We encourage asking everyone to take a small, easy-to-perform step and turn it into a long-term habit with lasting pro-environmental impact.

How can you make a difference while saving money, energy and the environment? Its easy:

* Turn out your non-essential lighting on April 22 from 8 to 9 p.m.
* Have a LightsOut Earth Day Party!
* Volunteer to inform your neighbors of LightsOut Akron.
* Take the “2% Solution Pledge” to cut your carbon footprint by 2% per year.
* Be a leadership volunteer to help us organize this event.

We are looking for individuals to do any of the above in addition to canvassing, and table staff.

Cool!

I always hope for a blackout during a thunderstorm. Knowing all my friends craze for the telly (aka Tv), (and I do love the internet and video gaming), but it just feels right when the power goes out, like thats the way it should be. For example, one Christmas the power died and the cats, my mother and I all kept one another warm and well entertained with stories, cake and string, err, for the cats that is. "Worst Christmas EVER!" I had said, but looking back now, it couldn't get better unless it was about 20 degrees warmer...
