Cause(s) to check out:

A NYC woman is loving Rihanna right now. After the singer put out a plea for help, the leukemia-stricken Lisa Gershowitz-Flynn, 41, has found a bone marrow donor.

“Today a 32-year-old guardian angel consented to be my donor, even though in all likelihood she has never met me and does not know who I am. While we cannot verify the source of the donor, this angel was most likely found through the efforts of my family and friends, as well as complete strangers who heard about my story and took it upon themselves to aid in the effort to find a donor.” (source)

On February 23rd, PEOPLE reported Rihanna’s campaign to find a donor for Flynn, the mother of two small children, who learned she has an aggressive form of cancer called Acute Myelogenous Leukemia the day after Thanksgiving. Doctors told her she had four to six weeks to find a life-saving donor match.

“When I heard about Lisa’s plight, my heart broke,” Rihanna told PEOPLE exclusively. “I said, “I need to get the word out about Lisa right away.’” (source)

Rihanna joined forces with DKMS – the largest non-profit marrow donor center to help raise awareness for the need for people to come forward to become donors. And less than two weeks later, Flynn has found a match and is now awaiting the bone marrow transplant. Talk about fast results! Big ups to Rihanna for using her star power to help save a life!

But the news gets even more fabulous!

“We actually recruited and registered roughly 2,000 new donors, just from the calls and email we got – and it’s continuing,” says Katharina Harf, executive vice president of DKMS. (source)

Naturally, Flynn is ecstatic that a match has been found.

“My life will be saved because of you, my family and friends (old and new),” Flynn writes. “My children (Michael, 5, and Alexandra, 3) will have their mother, my husband will have his wife, and my parents will have their daughter.” (source)
