Who will inherit the Iraq war?
![]() |
As the American military death toll in Iraq reached 4,000, President Bush vowed in a public statement yesterday that the outcome of the war “will merit the sacrifice.” But the DS generation seems to think otherwise; the vast majority voted that the US shouldn’t be in Iraq in the first place and needs to get out now. [see poll results] So what does our future President think? Here, a look at where the candidates stand on the war, and what they would do if they were elected.

The Iraq War
It's a war. Of course people are going to die. For once, stop paying so much attention to the media's outlook and start asking those who are actually there fighting for what they believe in. Our soldiers aren't over there because they have to be. They're over there because they want to be. Allow them and our president a little respect. He, especially, does not deserve the way he's been treated. He sent our soldiers over there to keep our country safe. This was not about oil, this was not about political power, this was about the safety of the American people. The threat is real, people. Wake up. We're not fighting a mindless war. There is not greater honor than dying for what you believe in, so let them do it. We have Al Qaeda and Muslim extremists fighting to wipe us off the planet. We took out a despotic dictator and instituted a democracy. Iran is afraid of us. We pull out now, the war will only be worse. Start looking at the bigger picture, people.
Soldiers and the war
My heart goes out to all of the soldiers in the middle east fighting. I believe what they are doing over there takes a lot of courage, but I completely disagree with the attitude of "the end justifies the means" attitude of our current President. 4,000+ have lost their lives for this country, and I believe that this war needs to come to a close because obviously we are not getting very far if so many people are still dying.
