Three weeks from now, if right-wing groups can gather enough signatures, a same-sex marriage ban could qualify for the California ballot in November. That means that voters would decide if same-sex marriage should be outlawed. In 2000, Californians voted to pass Proposition 22, which specified that “"only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” What do you think? Should same-sex marriage be banned? What about civil unions?

The only thing stopping us...
Is our own definition of what's "right" and what's "wrong". Cleary it is no longer about the sanctity of our marriages, all sacrelinity that marriages once held is dimished by divorce rates. Is it so wrong for one person to be happy with whomever makes them happy? If you really love someone, it shouldn't matter what their anatomy is, it should matter what is in their heart.
In addition
Dictionaries are products of their social environment. Dictionaries are very often updated to reflect colloquial words and their definitions. Words that have a formal meaning may also have a colloquial meaning that is recognizable due to common usage. Still, I don't allow my life to be defined by books. I define my life and what's right and what's wrong. The God I believe in tells me that love is love, period.
I know firsthand
I had two moms and honestly feel that I am a better person because of it. I'll explain it to my daughter by telling her that two women can love one another in the say way a man and a woman can. There will be MANY difficult things you'll have to explain to your children. Life has a way of making people confront many challenges and dilemmas.
As for your definition of marriage, that's just one definition of one dictionary written by one company. Whatever the case, I remain unconvinced of your viewpoint just as I'm sure you remain unconvinced of mine.
Everyone should be allowed
Everyone should be allowed to marry whomever they love. Politically, California is liberal ... very liberal, contrary to who the Governor is. I would be surprised if the ban passed. Even so, it just means same-sex couples will not be afforded the right to be "married." Currently in California, same-sex couples are able to register for domestic partnership benfits which give them half, I believe, the same rights as straight couples. I can't remember if they have civil unions which I think they do (New Jersey and Vermont have them). Bottom line is this: It may take a few years, but same-sex marriage is in the offing and that is my hardcore belief.
marriage-the legal or
marriage-the legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of a MAN and WOMAN to live as husband and wife, including the accompanying social festivities: to officiate at a marriage. theres the definition of marriage straight from the updated dictionary. There is no way a man and man or vis versa could be married because that is not defined in the meaning of the word. Gay marriage does effect my life and everyone else's, how are we going to explain to our children why their classmate has two mommies?
...
whatever.
WHAT!?!
What do you have against gay marriages? Does it affect you? NO, probally not. So why is it so wrong? Because the bible says so? Or are you homophobic??
The courts decided it recently
When they demanded that the ten commandments be removed from courtrooms across the country. There has to be a separation between religion and state. It is wrong to impose your religious beliefs upon others. That is one of the founding ideals of this nation.
Ultimately, if it does not affect your life, why should it matter who someone else marries or chooses to be with? And please don't use the argument that marriage is a religious institution because the reality is that marriage was started as a form of "ownership." Women were chattel (property) in the old days so a ceremony of sorts was created to make her the "official property" of a man, thus the institution of marriage was created.
how do you not offend any
how do you not offend any specific sexual orientation if the blog is about gay marriage? if i say anything other than gay marriage is right then it offensive...and its not right so I'll just let you figure out the opposite.
Gay marriage is RIGHT.
Excuse me who ever made the gays are wrong comment. Gay marriage is not wrong. If you aren't gay, it has nothing to do with you. And just so you all know, eve is a male name in France! And also, if you read the dirty laundry area, it says don't offend any specific sexual orientation. So don't comment here, comment on a gay basher site.
ok...
it is virtually impossible to have seperate church and state if the Constitution says "One nation under GOD."Amen
Gay Marriage
As a christian my self I believe that One being gay is something between them and God. Two I believe that God said love everyone. So based on that I believe that it's none of my buisness if two Gay people who love each other get married. It only matters to them my life will not be affected one bit. Lastly it will not tarnish the institution of marriage because we have already done that with a divorce rate of 50%.
Then who did create
Then who did create Steve?
This country has a separation of church and state and religious rhetoric and bad puns like that shouldn't decide policy.
Consenting adults should be free to make their own personal choices.
Gay marriage is wrong. God
Gay marriage is wrong. God did not create Adam and Steve!
gay marriage
i think that people should be alowed to marry whom they wish. what ever happened to cvil rights? why do these not apply to gay people as well as the rest of us?
