One of Ryan Phillippe’s first roles was playing a gay teen on the soap opera "One Life to Live", PLEASE at age 17 — a pretty mature move for a young actor just starting out. And last week while on the Late Show with Jay Leno, our man Ryan -- promoting his new film, Stop-Loss -- showed even more maturity while resisting to play along with his host's insensitive remarks about homosexuals.
Leno: Can you give me, like – say that camera is your gay lover …Can you give me your 'gayest look?'
Ryan: No I will not!... Wow...That is so something I don't want to do.
He totally nipped the possibly offensive joke in the bud while staying positive to keep the interview light-hearted.
In response, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation President (GLAAD) Neil G. Giuliano said:
We are proud of Ryan for refusing to participate in Leno's thoughtless attempt at humor.
Jay Leno totally apologized this week, saying:
In talking about Ryan's first role, I realize that what I said came out wrong. I certainly didn't mean any malice. I agree it was a dumb thing to say, and I apologize. (SOURCE)
But way to go, Ryan, for taking the high road under pressure!
What do you think? Were Leno's comments anti-gay? Or do you think he was just being playful and it came out the wrong way? And what do you think about Ryan's response? Do tell!

Eh, it could be taken
Eh, it could be taken however anyone sees fit, but given that he apologized publicly and professionally about all that, I don't see that it's that big of an issue. Now, if he were to start ranting and openly bashing gays on purpose, then there might be some cause for change, but so far, there's not.
