Path to Change
A Do Something project involves your club taking a look around the community, identifying how it can be improved, and mapping out the steps to these improvements.
CHOOSE YOUR SOMETHING
How do you think you could make your community better? Is there something missing, are there people, places, animals, or even ideas that are being left out? Do you want to improve something already in place or start a new project? Make sure everyone in the Club comes up with an idea and then decide what makes sense.
BELIEVE IT
What are the goals of your projects and why are they important? How will your project benefit others? Why do you think the need you identified has to be addressed, and what do you think should be done about it?
BUILD IT
Now that you’ve identified what needs to be done, how are you going to do it? What specific project will you plan, and why will it make the world a better place? Who can help you with your project and how will everyone work together?
ACTION STEPS
Any long term project is going to have many steps. What will need to happen and what will you need to make these steps happen? Could you enlist the help of a math class to map out an event space or have a history class give you info about Africa before you fight extreme poverty? Delegate responsibilities and set deadlines to stay on track.
CHALLENGES
What obstacles stand in the way of your project? Planning ahead can solve problems before they start. How can you prevent or solve these challenges once they arise?
SUCCESS
How will your club measure success? Do you want to raise a thousand dollars, collect 500 pounds of cans, or inform an entire class about drug use? How will these goals be announced to the community and how will everyone hear about your achievements? Who will record all your progress along the way?
NEXT STEPS
You’re almost done, but don’t forget to evaluate what can be done next. Will your club need to continue maintaining a garden that was planted or follow up with businesses that donated products? Did you achieve so much success that you want to repeat a project next year?
