More and more college campuses are adopting a 100 percent smoke-free or tobacco-free environment.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 45 million American adults are smokers. Meanwhile, the number of nonsmokers exposed to secondhand smoke is 126 million. Notice a discrepancy?

This issue has the attention of 290 college campuses across the country, and as a result they have enacted 100 percent smoke-free or tobacco-free policies. This movement should be adopted by ALL 6,742 universities. Why? Because 46,000 non-smokers die from heart disease related deaths every year. Not to mention the total costs of extra medical care, illness, and death caused by secondhand smoke is over $10 billion per year.

Help us change this. Sign and share this petition to have your school become a 100 percent smoke free environment. Trust us your lungs will thank you.

Upon receiving 46,000 signatures (one for every person killed each year because of secondhand smoke), we will email all that signed this petition a PDF of the signatures to hand-deliver to their college or university president.

Dear College President,

We believe that everyone deserves to receive an education in an environment that isn’t killing them. The number of people affected by secondhand smoke is almost triple the number of people ACTUALLY smoking. This is appalling.

At least 290 colleges across the US have adopted 100 percent smoke free policies and I would like this school to add its name to the growing list. And who knows, together, we might succeed in lowering the number of smoking-related deaths.

Smoking is dangerous enough, let along second hand smoking. Smoking on campus? That is just wrong! That is basically handing every kid who enters college a cigar! That is basically indirectly training them to get used to cigars and unhealthy tobacco products. Kids fight hard to stay off drugs before college, so why give them the influence to do it in college? To show you can live right, healthy, and preposterous, you need first establish morals and principles. They go to college because they want to further their education, health being another. They're not going to do drugs, drink alcohol, or fall ill. Be considerate of the bigger picture, the future, the details, and be the responsible adult you are.
