President Obama: Step Down As Honorary President of Boy Scouts of America

Every U.S. President since 1910 has held the position of honorary president of the Boy Scouts of America. As the newly re-elected POTUS, we want Obama to lead the charge by stepping down as honorary president of the Scouts in an effort to hammer home the point that exclusion of openly gay members is wrong.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA), after a confidential two-year review, has reaffirmed its policy of excluding openly gay members and troop leaders. Many of the country’s major corporations, sports leagues, and even the Girl Scouts have ended exclusion based on sexual orientation. Why not the Boy Scouts? After all, the BSA claims "to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes." Yet, with the current policy in place, the leaders of the BSA are sending a message to young people that only some of them are valued. This has to change.
