I don't understand how that would be brain washing students. Alot of children look-up to the President of the United States and to hear him say out his own mouth stay in school etc would motivate some if not all children to stay in school That's my opinion on the topic.
brainwashing would be maikng new rules, not asking kids to do something ( being to stay in school and try to excel), if it were brainwashing he would make it so kids would be punished if they did not go to school/stay in school.not needed since people who dont finish school already are slightly punished by the economy for that ( making less money to survive on through life) duuuurh people! stop accusing so you can feel better about what YOU represent, give the guy a chance, like all other people have for EVERY PRESIDENT. ugh people, ugh lol.
oh yeah, did anyone forget this is all about new CHANGE, so trying something a bit different is still what he represents, a new plan for a new kind of future.
How is it brainwashing? Obama is being a GREAT president and telling children to stay in school, to exel and be great in their lives. If that was brainwashing, than what isn't?

Obama is trying to influence our children. We do not need him to brainwash the youg people of the United States. He has an agenda and that is to control the minds of our children.
Where was that comment when the left crucified President Bush? They were bruttal. Obama is so far to the left, most people that are left thinking don't even understand where he is coming from.
He is telling kids to stay in school... not take drugs , following our friends or do something negative... what harm could telling all kids to stay in school... to better themselves and there community? where is the negative in the speech ?
okay so as a person that this hits home to i would firts like to say-Obama is one of the worst presidents yet. if he were to come to my school i would drop out. he is disgusting-the way he is dragging people down with him. the only thing i like about this man is that the obama haters had done nothinnng and the dude has lost 20% popularity. my guess is he wont stay long enough to make it to 2011! i think he is a jerk the last president(yes i am one of the 32% of america that LUVS bush) was one america trusted. we new that watever the cost he would keep our country safe. is that true with the new prez? he has done nothing to prove himself. he justs sits back and repeats the same phrase "let me be real" intill all of america gets so bored that they just pretend they agree to get the dude to shut up. his outreach in these schools is horrific. i feel it would brainwash because some teens(it is pretty much divded 50/50 with us) thinks it is cool that we have a black president. ii am not racist but i feel that america chose obama because of his color. he played with it to! his vote for a change was cliche and obvis. a let down because the only change he brought was to make us even closer to the depression that is glooming to us in the futre. i hate to say it-wait scratch that i rellie dont hate to ay it-obama is just wat ur afraid of, a brainwashing socialist.
woah, hold it, what are you basing any of this on? obama has a much higher approval rate than your pal george bush. he was not a president america trusted, he was one that america hated. It is not clear how you are getting all of this misguided information, but whatever news source from which you are learning these opinions is just about as reliable as "the onion" (look it up). also, i have never heard obama say "let me be real" in my life, and I've watched most of his speeches. you are also making very inaccurate generalizations, such as half of all american teens like obama because he is african-american. i don't understand your logic that obama telling kids to stay in school would "brainwash" kids. do you want kids to drop out of school? look, you are entitled to your opinions, but you should try to arrive at them logically and think on your own.
Also, for those whose argument is that they don't want politics to be brought into their schools or childrens' schools, i would say...they're public schools! obama is in control of them, as the president. i could see that argument if he was planning on speaking at a perochial school, but...Kids also study politics and government in schools, so it's not as if a speech about succeeding in life will bring them down or cause a huge political rift in the school, because (for those who still don't seem to realize it) he's the president.
I agree with DOLLARBOYZ, how can you brain wash a child. Obama is trying to incourage kids not brain wash them. About 90% of America's children look up to Obama.
He does not have an agenda. so do you want our economy to stay in a recession with no jobs, and no people helping our economy by adding to it and stuff.
With him encouraging our kids to be in school, he is telling them, not BRAINWASHING, to stay in school. If kids look up to him, they'll listen, and they'll be in more good jobs, there will be less murders, kidnappers, and violence in life. Would you want your child to be in a gang, or in medical school? Have an open mind, and stop being so stubborn.
It's good for our president to talk to the American people. Our children and youth are the future. When has it ever been wrong for a president to care about all of the people of his country?

I really think that it is you who needs to keep an open mind! there are other ways the education than typical school education, and no one is even considering that. I really dislike Obama's speech!! I am unschooled and I think people should keep an open mind about education. School is an institution,and I alack to live my life outside of the institution, which in my opinion is a lot better. Obama's speech plainly says that to be patriotic, you must go to school, and that is completely wrong. I am not right-wing, in fact, I am about as liberal as they come, and although I disagree with some of Obama's actions lately, I definitely like him in the beginning, so I'm not a hater or something.
I simply feel that it wouldn't be as bad as everyone makes out if kids left school,everyone acts like that's the most horrendous thing you can possibly do, and it is not! just because you don't go don't school, and do home school,doesn't mean you are uneducating. I would be happy to answer any questions about unschooled, but I think everyone here is being very closed minded, and should keep a bit of an open mind when discussing education!! do you know why I think no one keeps an open mind? because his speeches like this one, speeches that say to be patriotic you must be in school, to be "successful" you must be in school, to live a decent life, you must be in school. I disagree with all of those sentiments,and implore you all to keep an open mind when discussing education.
im republican. and i feel like obama did very well on his speech, his blend of ethos pathos and logos were awesome. the stories and examp[les he used were great. how a young black boy living with the disavantage of a single mother grew up to be the president of the united states. he puts himself with the listener but also seperates the two as well. " IM doing all I can to get YOU your books to get YOu your teachers, now all i need YOU do all YOu can." - okay so that wasnt word for word but you get the point obama is a great speaker, he really knows how to get people active in the cause.
