School says lesbian student cannot wear tux in yearbook photo.

Out and proud Ceara Sturgis took her yearbook photo wearing a tux but her school refuses to publish it saying traditionally only boys wear tuxedos and girls wear wraps. You think:

She should be able to wear what she wants. The School can't tell her what to do! Wear you tuxedo Ceara!

It is okay to wear a tex. It's just pant and a jacket.

She should be able to express herself and dress as she wants. It's not like she's wearing nothing. I think it's totally fine!

this is completely ridiculous that a school would even propose to be able to dictate to a student What a student is allowed, or not allowed to wear! it is not casual dress, therefore, she should be allowed to where it! even if she was cross-dressing she should be allowed to!

Whaaaat? I'm a girl who wears a tie to school (public school w/h no uniform) everyday, and while people find it sort of weird, I rarely ever get yelled at!!! As a matter of fact, only once was I told off for it! And that's because they don't really like me.
But still! That is so BOGUS!!!!!
And forget this whole traditional roles for the sexes crap! Can we say sexist? Yeah.

Keep being yourself, Ceara!

I agree wear what ever floats your boat, not to worry you shall by pass the owners of nothingness, and lost in the past forever. You look so sweet, keep up the good work......

girl, wear what you wanna wear. your school cant tell you otherwise unless its in writing, which im sure it isnt. whatever makes you confident, and comfortable.. then wear it. & remember, your gorgeous ( :

You go Ceara, I love how open you are! ButI don't know if would be wise to change the rules because if they let everyone wear whatever they wanted half the girls in my school would wear super tight, low cut mini dresses; schools still need to have boundaries.

Total BS! She should be able to wear what she feels is right, I would understand if it was a hurtful or an offensive outfit, however the outfit isn't meant to hurt anyone. It sucks that instead of supporting to their students, this school seems to be degrading and old fashioned. UPGRADE!

Ohh btw:Can't you sue over this? (discrination)

Its a free country, she should do what she wants.

Every human being has a Free decision!

no offence, but no one could even tell if she was a girl or not. Heck, before they even had put she was a lesbian on the pic I swore she looked like Michael Musso on the disney channel -
and come on, their just picking on her cause she's gay.

Plenty of non-lesbian girls at my school showed up dressed up in ties and suits when Avril Lavigne wore a tux on the VMA's one year- and I don't wear ties but my clothes look a sneeze away from being teenage boys attire lol

so yeah, power to ya girl- and maybe it's just the school she went to- switch to a more liberal school...

I agree that its a tradition but everything has to change sooner or later and its a free country let her do what she please.

By trying to control what she wears, they are trying to take away her individuality. She should wear what she believes represents herself the best. The school should not have a say in what she wears because they simply are not her. :)

Great job Ceara! I am glad u r'nt afraid to state how u feel!! Congrats!! I think u shoud be able to wear what u want. Good Job standing up for urself and the other students!! =)

*N!3-N!3*I THINK ITZ UP TO HER BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS A FREE WILL AND IF THATS WHAT SHE DECIDES TO...ITS HER CHOICE.

involved and concerned brookie

I say its her choice on what she wants just because its tradition it shouldnt mean she isnt allowed to wear a tux. i think its just an excuse for legal reasons that they say its because of tradtion.
thats my opnion
i dont think it matters what u wear no one she should be able to tell u otherwise unless its unapporiate.

i agree this is discrimination someone should do something about this. times have changed this school is just having trouble accepting it.

It is perfectly fine for Ceara Sturgis to wear tux. It is her right as a human to decide how she looks. She can wear what she wants to wear. She can be who she wants to be. That is her right as a human. If she wants to wear a tux in her yearbook photo, the school should allow her. I really respect Ceara Sturgis for her bravery and honesty. I am sure that she have inspired many people.

I personally think that everyone should be allowed to express who they are as an individual. Everyone is not the same!
