People should definately be rewarded because the fact of the matter is that some are selfish, and the people in need, need these organs, so to address the changing times we need to either force people into donating or coerce them into it, because people NEED these organs.
Giving should be a complete joy of its own making someone pay you to be kind is definitly a horrible thought. If you need to be paid then just don't give. It's as simple as that. Then when the person dies you'll be remorseful because you had the opportunity to change a live but you killed it.
I would like everyone to retake this poll after their parent, friend, sibling died from not getting the transplant they needed because there were not enough. that happens every single day. If a tax break or other incentitive is what it takes to save a human life, why not?
No I don't think they should be paid. Some people are dead when they give up thier organs. If you don't want to do it out of the kindness of your heart don't do it at all.
God bless donors.
A tax deduction is not the same thing as being paid. Honestly when you live paycheck to paycheck and you see half of your money going to the govenrment, then you do something nice that might cost you in the end, you want to and need to have some sort of bonus. What would happen if you donate one kidney, and then years later your other one fails?
And funerals are expensive. If you donate your organs after death then your family should recieve some money to bury the rest of your remains.
If getting paid encourages people to save lives then im for it 100%. It breaks my heart to know people in desparate need of organs are dying because help came to late or not at all. Its understandable that people should do things out of the kindness of their hearts but that doesnt mean that those wonderful people should not be thanked or recognized even if they dont want/need it.
If you have to be bribed to do it don't do it at all. Let someone who wants to, do it out of the kindness of their heart. jesus did'nt have a reward to die for all of us, he did it so we could go to heaven and to help us. He didn't get anything out of it.
They should be paid! Donors help others when they donate living organs. If they are paid then more people will donate living organs and more people will receive organs that they have been waiting for. More lives will be saved this way.
I understand how ppl would think that this should b an act of kindness. but the cold hard truth is that the world isn't kind. im not sayin give up hope or anything, jus that payment would b a big encouragement.
It would be nice if people would do it out if the kindness of their hearts, but if I needed a kidney, and I was going to die without one, I wouldn't care why the kidney was donated as long as I got it.
this is a tough question. although donating organs should be something you do because its right, and it also cost more money for the government, because there is such a high demand anything that will help save more lives is beneficial.
Ok,
I'm middle of the line.
On one hand, with the problems surrounding us, maybe a little Tax deduction isn't a big deal. Some people have serious problems right now and a little extra couldn't hurt a thing.
On the other hand,
People should do this stuff out of the kindness of they're hearts, not for money.
okay, so i was definitely tempted at first to vote yes on this issue. i mean i like getting money for stuff as much as the next person. and i think a tax deduction is a grand idea. but i DONT think the goverment should be giving out money to people for making a humanitary sacrifice. both my parents are organ donors, and i plan on becoming one once im old enough. i think its something people should do. but people should do it because they feel compelled to, or because theyre nice people and want to be able to change someone else's life, not because theyre getting some extra cash for it. sorry if this offends anyone! :)
Well on one hand people need organs, some people are dying and desperately need them, their families are trying to find anything to help them and there's no doubt that they would be grateful to a person for being an organ donor despite a monetary benefit and that would help a bunch of people but really donating an organ seems like something a person should do to help others but isn't what's important is people survive?
In my opinion, you should only do this [donate an organ] if you are doing it with a pure, caring heart. If you do it for your own gain, your actions are in vain & dishonorable. It's as my first Core Value states, "Integrity First" & my second Core Value backs it up even stronger, "Service Before Self". So please, don't do it to make yourself look good, do it for the people whom need that pure heart that you must have to be a TRUE Organ Doner.
i totally agree with julz_ml the more donations the less people have to wait with the high possibilty risk of never getting he transplant they need. i dont think people should be paid to do it because it should be from the heart not for money.
I think that organ donors should not get paid; because they are doing it out of kindness!!!!! In fact I am an organ donor myself and I would never want special treatment since I gave someone my organ(S)!!!!:D
I had a kidney transplant almost 4yrs ago. Donors shouldn't be PAID to give up their organs. It's a nice jesture, but it shows who really cares and whose in it for the money. It's enough of a gift to see someone happy, someone have another chance at life, when you give it voluntarily.
It's really ashame to say but if people were paid for their organs more people might donate them, which in turn would lesson the wait time people have to wait for a donor.
I do think that people shoul get paid for donating an organ or something because some people do donate out of the kindness of there heart so they shoul have something more than a scare to show that. :-)
Donating organs should be something that you do to help someone else and make yourself feel good knowing that you will help them and possibly save their life. Doners shouldn't be payed because it is not about the money.
Yes, i definetly think that people should be paid to be living organ donors, because when they donate, they could have serious health problems and can stopped from doing many things in life. So yes I do think they should be paid for being help. It also gives other people a chance to live a life. Wouldn't you want to live life to the fullest and not to a young age???? Think about that!!!
Donor has the very word in it: donate. Donate means to give of one own's accord without the assurance of something in return. To me it would be contradictory to pay someone for their organs. If that were the case, they would no longer be called donors; they would be sellers.
I totally agree with that and apparently some people forget the meaning of that when they're only doing it for their own benefit, which would completely ruin that definition. Yeah people are in need of organs, but people should do it on their own will and not be bribed into it.
So, do you think that the person getting the organ gives a rats butt why someone donates? If they get the kidney they need to live, which they may not have gotten if the person had not been paid, I highly doubt they will be upset. I don't think there should be private payments from the recipient, because they already have to pay for all the medical costs, but a tax break for the donor is the least that person deserves for saving someones life regardless of the motivation. Egg donors are compensated for their time and discomfort for a very simple procedure, and organ donors go through much more. I see nothing wrong with a tax break for their time and discomfort, and for giving up a vital organ.
While I agree that people should just care enough to donate their organs for free, I also think that since they made the awesome decision to be an organ doner, the government should reward them some way. It could even be like a discount to go toward schooling or like a house or car payment, it doesn't just have to be cash.
I believe people SHOULD be organ donars out of the kindness of thier hearts...But we all know most people wouldn't care do that. So I believe even though paying organ donors would be considered a type of bribery it would make things more available to those in need. So in the long run we would be greatly helping our communities.
It is weird how people get paid for plasma and blood, and other body fluids, and OMG eggs! But why aren't organs? I think the "goodness of their hearts" argument should play there as well, right? Clearly their lives aren't typically threatened through these kinds of donations, so you'd think they'd be absolutely FREE! Yes there are blood drives and yes I give to them, but you get my point I'm sure. People are paid to test prototype drugs, which influence our organs (otherwise they wouldn't be testing). So why do we carry a higher moral trigger on organ donation?
I guess on the one hand, money opens a can of worms about consent. Who really knows if a person is doing it of their own free will? On the other hand, yes we all wish we humans were more humane. But we're not. "Goodness of one's heart", I understand the sentiment, but it's just not realistic. If it were, there wouldn't be such a shortage.
From one angle, it's a matter of balancing fear. Fear of future consequences as a result of donating a kidney, fear that I'm really not dead when they harvest, fear of uncertainty about what goes on after we die, fear of economic hardship.
In my heart I say absolutely allow organs to be paid for. But realistically, it could become virtually impossible to work out. But something has got to be done to lessen the burden to the donor or there won't be many (the higher good isn't working, as one individual said here. Death of a loved one changes your moral compass, and possibly your religious convictions.)
How about free health care? Some transferable good. A tax rebate wouldn't be enough for me. It's either money, health care, somebody I know, or death. I have no aversion to donating an organ to someone I know well. To just put it into the population would require an incentive. I'm not that altruistic, and I don't think those who typically say "out of the goodness of their hearts" are either. No offense intended here, but that's expecting more of human nature than is even remotely probable. A few rare cases I'm sure. But living donation comes with risks (particularly future health risk--at least perceived), and those risks should be dealt with.
P.S. My son had to have a kidney removed with he was young due to pylonephritis as a result of a poorly developed kidney. His other kidney is plugging along just fine. I was surprised to find how many of us don't have two!
i agree that donating organs should be done out of the kindness of someone's heart, but not everyone is that generous. Paying them will get more donations which will help others in the long run.
It is not good idea to pay for body parts.
Because then body parts become commercial item.
And if body parts become commercial items, people will find way to get them for money.
And some people are willing to do anything for money, like even to kill.
Oh, boo. If someone is going to become an organ donor, it should be because they honestly want to help someone out, not because it'll earn them a few bucks.
I don't think so because some way some how,I have a feeling it would turn into one big scam!Things that are intended to be good, someone always find a way to make it go bad :(
Besides I think it means more to the person that needs it that someone would actually do it because they actually cared & not just for money. It's like they're putting a price tag on your life and that's one of those sacred things that should remain priceless!
That's really hard for me to say specifically.
I'm going to need a lung transplant in the future, and i don't want to say they shouldn't get paid.
I feel they shouldn't get paid cash, i think a good payment would be knowing they've saved a life.
Life is a priceless gift, how do you know how much to pay a person for that anyway?
For the family of the person's lungs i get in the future, i'll be indetbed to them eternally.
I think that this could encourage people to donate. If they do it out of the kindness of their heart, then I am uncontrollably proud of them. I hope that they live a great life. If they do it for the money... well they still saved a life. I myself want to donate an organ when I am older. I want to save lives.
If people are paid to do a charitable work for others, it isnt much of a charitable work, its more; ill give this just so i can go by this. It would also; seems to me, that it could become unhealthy if that was going on with so many people. And if you are paid it is not something you are doing for the joy and the livlyhood of people its just to get a quick buck.

i love my kidneys
i love your kidneys too, brian
Who cares why people donate organs, the fact is the more organs donated.. the less time patients have to wait for a transplant.
No. They shouldn't do it for money.
I don't even know where I stand in organ donations.
(In a religious P.O.V.)
People should definately be rewarded because the fact of the matter is that some are selfish, and the people in need, need these organs, so to address the changing times we need to either force people into donating or coerce them into it, because people NEED these organs.

I don't know. I think money is the base of most evil (I'm sorta a Hippie) but it would get more donars....

Im stuck, can't choose.
Whether or not the donor of a kidney or liver or heart received a tax cut or not does not matter at all to the recipient of the organ.
okay, so i was definitely tempted at first to vote yes on this issue. i mean i like getting money for stuff as much as the next person. and i think a tax deduction is a grand idea. but i DONT think the goverment should be giving out money to people for making a humanitary sacrifice. both my parents are organ donors, and i plan on becoming one once im old enough. i think its something people should do. but people should do it because they feel compelled to, or because theyre nice people and want to be able to change someone else's life, not because theyre getting some extra cash for it. sorry if this offends anyone! :)

Give organs for the right reasons not to make money off parts of your body. No one can put a price on an organ.

I don't believe that the state should pay anything to donors but private individuals should be allowed to.
Some people will give out of the goodness of their hearts but more lives will be saved if monetary compensation was allowed.
It's a sticky issue because some people will abuse it but those in need should not be penalized for that.
I agree with you. People want money. If that will make them donate it, go for it. But again, money can be a source of evil...
