How To: Organize a Bone Marrow Drive and Fight Cancer

q tips

Every year 10,000 people need a bone marrow transplant. Only 4 out of 10 will receive the transplant they need. Adding people to the Be The Match Registry® helps increase survival. Also, registering only requires donors to swab their cheeks and to be ready when they're called. Organize a bone marrow registry drive for donors over 18 years old (but you don't have to be 18 to organize it!).

  1. Sign up for the Give a Spit [2] campaign in order to start scheduling a bone marrow drive on your campus.
  2. Get your team of volunteers together.
  3. Find a large space for the drive. Ask the school if they can provide the gym or cafeteria. Off campus, try a community, religious or recreation center.
  4. Someone from the Give a Spit [2] campaign will contact you and help you with questions and further steps in your planning.
