3 tips for you.
Heading to college in the fall and worried about staying eco-friendly? Look no farther, because we’ve got three easy tips that will help you live green in your room and on your campus.
1. Get in touch. During the summer before your freshman year, you’ll likely get assigned to a double room. Contact your roommate before school starts to prepare! You can collaborate on buying eco-friendly room furnishings and supplies.
2. Consolidate. You could split a MicroFridge, which is a microwave, refrigerator, and freezer all in one. Most schools’ policies allow appliances like these, but make sure to check with your office of residential life. To top it off, stock up on some real dishes and utensils that you can keep in the room, to avoid using paper and plastic. That way, you can enjoy snacks with your new roommate while knowing that you’re making a little difference in your new home.
3. Get outside! If you can, take advantage of public transportation. Many schools have agreements with local companies that allow students to get a reduced rate or ride for free on buses and trains. If you’re living in a less urban area, and you or your friends have cars, carpool and split gas money.
