Cause-y Summer Jobs

School’s coming to an end and that means about three months of no tests, homework, or early mornings. You can use this time to do something about an issue important to you. Check out the list of cause-y summer jobs we’ve put together.

  1. Volunteer. Visit a local animal shelter [1] and ask if they need any volunteers to help feed, brush, or walk dogs and cats.
  2. Teach an art class...at a summer camp in your community. Students who participate in arts programs are at least three times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
  3. Bookworms wanted. Host a weekly reading program [2] at your library.
  4. Candy striper. Bring a little cheer to sick kids at a children's hospital.
  5. Park/Beach cleanup. Who doesn’t love swimming at the beach or hanging at the park? Now you can help keep it beautiful for all to enjoy.
  6. Got a green thumb? Plant trees, flowers and help take care of your neighbor’s yard.
  7. Senior coordinator [3]. Connect with seniors in your neighborhood – whether it’s board games, movies, or old-fashioned conversation.
  8. A fitness buff? Run a class at your local gym and help educate others about the importance of healthy living.
  9. Cook. Offer your culinary skills at a food kitchen [4].
  10. Party cleanup. Put up flyers around town offering to take away cans and other recyclables after neighborhood parties.
  11. Grow a town vegie garden [5]. There’s nothing better than fresh produce, especially when it comes from your own backyard.
