Have you ever seen a video that was so disturbing that it made you want to jump up and take action right away? That's how Aly & AJ felt after watching the news and security camera images taken of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia being abducted, shortly before her 2004 murder. The singing sisters were so affected that they wrote the song "I Am One of Them" in an hour to raise awareness about child kidnapping.
"The lyrics and music just flowed because we felt so passionately about the issue," the sisters said in a joint quote to Seventeen magazine. Here is a sample:
It's hard to look outside my door
With all the news reports and more
yet I will do my part and stay on alert
For all the kids out there who are getting hurt
It could have happened to me
Can you make me believe
This could have a happy end
'cause I am one of them
Aly & AJ also joined the advisory board of AmberWatch Foundation, an organization that works to prevent kids from being abducted by teaching safe routes from school to home and by encouraging them to find an adult in an uncomfortable situation.
