Cynthia Nixon is a survivor. There are no two ways about it. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and after having surgery and radiation therapy, is now cancer free. Add to this the fact that her mother is a breast cancer survivor, and you can see why she's so active. She became the official spokeswoman for Susan G. Komen For the Cure [1], and even convinced the head of NBC to show her own breast cancer special.
She also works closely with AmeriCares HomeFront [2], for which she recently participated in a shopping spree at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
SATC dealt with breast cancer a few years ago, when Kim Cattrall's character Samantha was diagnosed on the show. When asked, Nixon said she thought the show handled it beautifully, especially since it's such a difficult subject to address.
