Last week shock jock Howard Stern aired a segment on his show of spliced Dolly Parton audio clips [1], making it sound as though the singer herself had made explicit and racist comment.
Stern regularly uses remixed clips of celebs, including Oprah and William Shatner. But in a move worthy of Twisted Sister, Queen Jolene decided she's not going to take it, no, she ain't gonna take it!
When it comes to racist and sexist jokes, the usually jovial Dolly (cue her famous quip:“It takes a lot of money to look this cheap”) is putting her well-heeled foot down.
In fact, she’s so upset, she’s threatening to sue. Dolly said via statement that she “would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth.” In turn, Stern tried placating her by saying how much he respects her amazing career. Sound like Stern's just trying to avoid a lawsuit? Maybe. But then he's claiming Dolly doesn’t have a case.
What do you think? Should Stern be allowed to humiliate Dolly via freedom of speech, or did the joke go too far when he put offensive words in to her mouth? Let us know in the comments section!
