2008 is a big year for commencement speeches. We already told you about Presidential hopeful Barack Obama speaking for peace in a time of war at Wesleyan and Harry Potter Bigwig J.K. Rowling at calling for everyday magic at Harvard.
NBC anchor, Brian Williams told Ohio State Graduates “We need you to fix the country.”
On the flipside, comedian Stephen Colbert recipient of the "The Great Princeton Class of 2008 Understandable Vanity Award." asked graduates at Princeton this year not to change the world "You can change the world," he said. "Please don't do that, OK? Some of us like the way things are going now." Nothing like a little reverse psychology to get the masses moving, huh?
Speaking of someone who likes the way things are going now, President Bush was generous pardoning all students with outstanding school fees at this years Air Force Academy graduation. “The Superintendent informs me that some of you are still on restriction… In keeping with longstanding tradition, I hereby absolve all cadets who are on restriction for minor conduct offenses. As for your grades, well, some things are even beyond the powers of the President.”
