Nominee Profile: TV shows

Five shows have been nominated for the Do Something TV show [1] award, but only one can win. And we're having the hardest time deciding which to root for!

"Thousands audition...Millions vote...One wins," is the tagline for Do Something TV show [1] nominee American Idol. The show has a two-hour charitable campaign called Idol Gives Back [2], which raises money for underprivileged children worldwide. And just this past April, the fundraising event raised more than $45 million.

But is Idol as exciting as the thrilling documentary series Whale Wars? Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society [3], and his crew attempt to deter Japanese ships that hunt whales off the coast of Antarctica. In this action packed show, Paul goes to extreme measures to save the whales.

Not musical enough for you? Try voting for TV show nominee GLEE. This musical comedy series worked with Fox to raise funds for the Grammy Foundation’s "Grammy in the Schools" [4] music education program for young people through a screening with ticket sales benefiting the program. They also aired an episode embracing diversity when they choreographed a dance to "Proud Mary" with wheelchairs.

Though if music isn't your thing, think about food. But you'd better eat healthy or prepare to face Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution! In this nominated show, celebrity chef and health campaigner Jamie travels to Huntington, West Virginia, America's unhealthiest town. He educates the people of Huntington on healthy eating and helps public schools serve healthier food to their students. Eating healthy is very important for Jamie and in his show, he makes sure it is a top priority for others as well.

Still not enough? Consider the guys that get on the cover of Rolling Stone, sleep in a haunted house, and dance with Ellen DeGeneres. The Buried Life [5] follows Duncan, Ben, Dave, and Jonnie’s “100 things to do before you die” list. These Canadian friends travel across North America to complete their list and document their trip. Also, for every item from the list that the boys complete, they help a stranger achieve one of their dreams.

We really can't decide which show to choose, but we hope that you can. Vote now [6] and watch the Do Something Awards on July 19 to see if your pick wins!
