Myspace pages can seem like a constant popularity contest. But celebrities don’t count…or do they? Taylor Swift definitely has more friends than the rest of us, but don’t feel bad: she has more than 1,056,375 friends on myspace, which is more than Britney Spears , Mariah Carey , or Madonna !
What makes Taylor’s page special? Well, while most celebrity blogs seem like mindless pages thrown together by their publicist, Taylor Swift’s myspace page is like a never-ending journal of her life that she is openly sharing with her fans.
Her page is packed with blog updates, lyrics to new songs, video posts from her downtime, and advise to her young fans. By being so open and personal and using the web to connect with young girls, Taylor Swift is taking her page above and beyond a simple place for her fans to gossip about her. She is actually involved in the conversation.
The connection Taylor has allowed her webpage to open up is the way she wants to operate with her fans. She wants to treat them as friends who can reach out to her. “If I sign an autograph for someone, I don’t put them in the category of ‘fan’ and keep them at arm’s length,” she told Self.
Taylor says she enjoys the support she gets from her fans and wants to give back some of that love however she can. “It’s just so cool. It’s a constant stream of love,” says Taylor.
Taylor says her myspace was particularly helpful in filtering out her feelings about her breakup with Joe Jonas who allegedly broke up with her in a 27-second phone call. In order to cope with the breakup, she made a spoof of it for her website.
You go girl! CGG thinks this was a good model for how girls should try and laugh off bad breakups instead of letting it consume them. It’s a fun way to get over the jerk, no?
