Louis Palmer has covered 23,000 miles and hasn't spent a penny on gas.
How's that possible? He's driving a car that runs on nothing but battery power and the sun's energy. His hope is that his emission-free "solar taxi" will dazzle investors and help save Mama Earth.
"The whole world has been talking about the energy crisis. Here's a solution," Palmer told the Daily News this week during a stop in Manhattan. "[It costs] $15,000 and you won't have to visit a gas station for 20 years: Imagine that."
The car was built by university students in Palmer's homeland of Switzerland. It can travel 200 miles on two batteries and reaches a top speed of 55 mph. And, get this, if the driver needs to go further, he can charge the batteries in a regular power socket!
Palmer's world tour began in Saudi Arabia in July of 2007. He has driven a total of 23,000 miles through 28 countries. He's scheduled to hit Boston next, then on to Montreal.
