This weekend is Memorial Day. Get ready for barbeques, beach, and tons of family/friend time. And to ensure we don’t forget the real meaning of the holiday (no it’s not the “unofficial” start of summer), the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA [1]) is launching a “Go Silent” campaign.
IAVA is encouraging Americans to stop and honor those who have died defending our country. “Go Silent [2]” asks for a pledged moment of silence on Memorial Day at 12:01 p.m. ET. This time of remembrance will coincide with the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
“We invite those who sign our online petition to [create] a simple but powerful, unified expression of remembrance,” said IAVA in a release.
Over 3,000 people have pledged their silence. Add your name to the ranks.
What can you do?
