The High School Bucket List

teen list

Before you graduate this June (or next June or the June after that), leave your mark on high school. And we don't mean sticking gum underneath the desk in math class.  These 11 must-do's will leave you a superstar legacy, but it will make high school a better place for the next clan.

  1. Host a movie night for your club. And while you're all cheering for Wall-E and his plant, make sure everyone recycles their soda cans.
  2. Make sure there's at least one more recycling bin in the hall than when you started. Maybe even stick on a label: Jill was here, and she was super green.
  3. Tutor someone. You'll be helping make someone else's high school experience better and you'll get an ego boost, because you're the king of the  pythagorean theorem.
  4. Hold a bake sale for your favorite cause. Because you know what makes a good deed even better? Chocolate frosting. And sprinkles.
  5. Remind your school about the importance of art education, whether that's through organizing an art gallery in the gym or having your choir dance and sing through the cafeteria Glee style.
  6. Get a classroom pet. Remember how much you loved your third grade class hamster? Now that you're older and understand the tigers or polar bears might need more help, have your class adopt an endangered animal. All of the cute, no cage cleaning duties.
  7. If your school has a anti-bullying policy, hang up fliers with the rules, if it doesn't, draft one and present it before your school officials. It'll be easier to leave the tiny helpless freshman behind if you know bullies won't be tolerated.
  8. Organize class related efforts. If you can get an art class to send encouraging drawings to overseas troupes, a home-ec class to make a meal for a homeless shelter, and a gym class to coach a team at an elementary school with less PE funding you won't just be spreading good across your community, you'll be creating an army of helpful students.
  9. Time for nostalgia and fitness; create a high school field day. Hula hoop contests were fun when you were a kid, but you never really needed them until you had to deal with advanced chemistry.
  10. Work with school officials to create a disaster plan for you high school. Watching Twister during science is awesome, not having a plan when a twister is racing towards your school is not.
  11. Make sure your school's health class features a lesson on dating violence. Students can't speak up about a friend in trouble if they don't know what to look for.
