You guys (69,000 to be exact) have been texting in your questions to President Obama and he’s been answering! We received a really great question from 16-year-old, St. Louis, Missouri resident Brianna Veal on Wednesday. She asked about debt reduction and loan forgiveness for young people who enter into public service – which President Obama answered right after he landed in Senegal, Africa. Baller, right? Brianna thought so too. Check out her interview below on the experience:
DoSomething.org: As a high school student what are your major concerns about college?
Brianna Veal: My major concern about college is how I'm going to be able to afford everything. I feel like for most high school students that’s the first thing that comes to mind. Looking for scholarships is definitely going to become a routine during my senior year.
DS: What prompted you to text with President Obama?
BV: I thought it was just a great opportunity – to even have the chance is amazing. I couldn't pass it up because President Obama has to be my favorite person in general.
DS: What were your feelings when you heard that he would be responding to your question?
BV: I was really excited because I've never really gotten an opportunity like this. I admire President Obama very much and finding out he was answering my question was definitely overwhelming in the best way possible.
DS: Were you satisfied with the answer?
BV: I was more than satisfied. He sent the texts a few minutes apart, so when I received the first text, I thought that was all but then every five minutes he would send another message, and then another. It made me feel that he really thought about my question and gave me all the information he could, which I really appreciate.
DS: How does it feel knowing that you texted with the President of the United States?
BV: It feels really awesome! I still can't believe it. I couldn't stop smiling the whole day after I found out he'd answer my question. I'll always remember that feeling and his answer. It just really means a lot to know that he cares this much to stop whatever he's doing and answer a young student's question that could help us in our future endeavors.
DS: What are your plans for the future? Are you looking to go into public service?
BV: My plans after high school are to attend University of Missouri-Columbia. I'm going to major in Education actually, I'd love to be a high school History teacher.
