9-Year-Old Swims From Alcatraz to San Fran

alcatraz

How far would you go for your cause? One girl swam from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco (1.5 mile swim). Oh yea, she’s 9.

Jordan Freer swam in the name of Nothing But Nets [1], a global, grassroots campaign that looks to raise awareness in the fight against malaria.

But wait, wasn't she totally freaked to swim in the San Fran Bay?

"I was not worried about sharks because the species in the bay are all bottom feeders."

Whoa! This girl's got more guts than we do. While we wouldn't swim such a length, we'll gladly join her and the UN Foundation in the mission to end the disease-related deaths by 2015.

What Can You Do?

  • 11 scary facts [2] about malaria.
  • Background [3] on Malaria.
  • Start an awareness campaign [4] about this cause.
