Wood River is located in central Nebraska and it is surrounded by what seems like endless blocks of corn fields. This small community is active in supporting our local high school sports, but it seems like the only people getting much of a work out are the players.
The people of Wood River are ,to say the least, caring and full of pride. Although our town is close to perfection, there are several changes I'd like to see happen. For starters, a program that focuses on getting the people of Wood River to take better consideration of their eating habits and gets them off their feet.
The project A Healthier Tomorrow is aimed for my rural-Nebraskan community of Wood River. A Healthier Tomorrow promotes healthier life-style choices for our youth, and it helps parents make more nutritions decisions when it comes to meal planning. Not only does this project give an outline of good food choices, but also it gives helpful tips on how to stay active.
As part of A Healthier Tomorrow, I will be meeting with my school principle and talking to him about how A Healthier Tomorrow can be enforced at our school. I will raise awareness of A Healthier Tomorrow in my school by posting posters, thereby informing students about the benefits of eating correctly and staying active.
Parents will be given information about this goal for our community by the monthly school newsletter.
The goal for A Healthier Tomorrow is to inform the community of Wood River to take simple steps towards living a healthier life. Hopefully A Healthier Tomorrow will remain in our schools in the way of monthly newsletters to the families. Future plans will be built on this basic step.
