The most important part of the Harvest Festival was, of course, the food. We ordered a wide variety of seasonal produce (apples, radishes, beets, squash, pumpkins, almonds, pomegranates, persimmons, honey sticks (a favorite!), etc.) from our local Marin Organic Farmer's Market. All of the food was organic and local (and delicious!). In addition to food, we wanted to educate the community on ways to green their everyday lives. We made 4 beautiful raffle baskets full of wonderful green products, from recycled trash bags to EO hand sanitizer (free of toxic chemicals) to toothbrushes made of yogurt cups. And we sold Klean Kanteens, which are safe, environmentally-friendly alternatives to plastic water bottles. Live music by Branson student artists drew crowds, and homemade organic baked goods were also a hit! Not only was the Harvest Festival a success in that it attracted so much of the Branson community; it also helped the Environmental Action Committee raised close to $2,000 to go towards green projects, such as installing motion sensors to the lighting in our classrooms!
