Break It to Build It

The Problem

In my town of Chapel Hill there are a lot of parents that work hard to provide food and shelter for their children but are not able to do it on their own. I am the UNC Habitat for Humanity president because I want to see as many of these families in safe, sturdy, and affordable homes as soon as possible. The main problem in many neighborhoods in Chapel Hill is housing that is not only inadequate but also unaffordable, so UNC Habitat for Humanity is working hard to build and fund houses for the families affected by this problem.

Plan of Action

I would like to create a new event through the UNC Habitat for Humanity Club with the end goal of raising money to reach our $70,000 fundraising goal, which in turn goes toward building two houses in the Chapel Hill area. My event will be called "Break It to Build It," where students and other community members can pay a certain amount of money (~$10) to smash an old car with a sledgehammer. The people who buy tickets to swing the sledgehammer will be breaking it (the car) with the goal of building it (the houses). This event will be an exciting way for people to not only learn about UNC Habitat for Humanity and the impact we have on our community, but also have fun destroying an old car while doing so!
