My plan is to continue to work with my student group to help displaced youth in Thailand and at the same time, continue building a multicultural community of youth and everyone in Utica, NY. Our main goal is to build the library in a border town in Thailand so the children there will have an opportunity to learn and a place to study. In terms of the Newcomer students in Utica, NY, we want keep supporting and encouraging them in many ways. The new arrivals continue to come to Utica, including refugees from Burma/Thailand, Bhutan/Nepal, Somalia, the Congo, Yemen, and other countries as well. We will help them to make new friends and bring them to participate in social and cultural events, to do volunteer work, and also to visit the Statue of Liberty and learn about the American story. We also want to add a short summer program at my community college to introduce the newcomer students to the college and help teach them many things they need to know in order to be successful. We would bring refugees who have been here for a while to come and mentor the new refugees, and other former refugees and American students to connect and inspire them.
