In the Mukono district of Uganda, the Kitega Community Center provides care and education for area children. Some of the children are mentally disabled and have been by their parents; others are the children of parents who are simply to impoverished to care for their families. One of the ways Kitega helps is through their porridge feeding project, in which they provide a breakfast of maize porridge to as many children as possible. They cooperate with local schools and would like to add more schools to the program. Maize flour prices have risen and the directors at Kitega are not sure whether they can continue the program for the entire school term.
