There are so many social issues being faced every single day, however the consciousness of such issues often does not reach any farther than the people that face them every single day. The first step in creating positive social change is to raise consciousness and awareness, for consciousness, once raised, can never be altered. It is the goal of The Consciousness Collective to begin the conversations that start positive social change. To do so, The Consciousness Collective seeks to produce new and existing theatrical works within the community that address issues such as homelessness, access to health care, false convictions, bullying, the cycle of poverty, domestic abuse, racial equality, the wage gap and fair wages, voting rights, and other pressing social issues by creating and producing "Social" theatre. Social theatre engages all citizens in the act of telling their own unique stories and presenting those stories in a way that seeks to both building understanding and to engage others in the process of beginning to address such issues in a collective and positive way. The Consciousness Collective places its primary emphasis on authentic storytelling and the Collective's programming will serve this primary purpose by presenting these stories in a variety of ways, including but not limited to plays, open forums, interactive theatre and role play, and improvisational theatre.
