The Problem

Not everyone in the world has access to clean water. In parts of Honduras, women have to travel 5 to 8 miles everyday to reach rivers and contaminated sources so their families can have water to clean with and drink. This water causes diseases that lead to kids being absent from school. These absences eventually lead up to a number of students dropping out, creating a community where very few people receive higher levels of education.

Plan of Action

We plan on going to Honduras for 6 days along with other school across the nation, and working on a water system. The system is on a mountain side by a community so its a gravity system, but it needs to be connected to the community via pipes. Our job is to help the community dig, pipe, and refill trenches that will connect to a water storage and treatment center and disperse the water to families, making clean water readily accessible to the community. In addition, we will have an education day with the community where we will teach them how to be healthy and safe with tips about clean water, as well as teach them how to sustain the water system and storage center so it can be maintained after Global Water Brigades leaves the area.
