At least 1.3 billion people worldwide lack access to the most basic healthcare, often because there is no health worker. "The global population is growing, but the number of health workers is stagnating or even falling in many of the places where they are needed most," said Lee Jong-wook, director-general of the World Health Organization in April, 2006. The World Health Report recommends that in order to repair this situation, we need "the right workers with the right skills in the right place doing the right things."
Our Mission is to become the principal non-profit organization and website for health related volunteers and workers anywhere in the world. We are an independent, third party, non-partisan, non-governmental organization (NGO) unaffiliated with any country or entity. We are building the world's largest listing of healthcare volunteer and employment opportunities. Working alongside Ministries of Health abroad we document and determine medical need. We employ innovative technology solutions to improve the healthcare system. Our ongoing research of global health volunteering trends will be instrumental in using free human resources to confront global health issues. We empower every human to contribute to the health of the world. At no cost, we provide an avenue for any volunteer to find an appropriate volunteer opportunity in a health related field that fits their requirements.
When HealthCare Volunteer was founded on January 1, 2006 we knew there was no lack of medical need. And through this undertaking it became clear that there is no lack of individuals who want to help. Now, as Healthcare Volunteer brings together dedicated volunteers and the people who need them, there will be no shortage of action.
