Initiated in the fall of 2007, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) is a youth driven campaign to reduce the use of non-recyclable plastic bags in Ottawa, Canada. BYOB is a program supported by Jer's Vision: Canada’s Youth Diversity Initiative. Jer’s vision is Canada’s first national organization to support and encourage the work of youth to address a wide range of pertinent issues including diversity, discrimination and the environment.
The BYOB program asks local businesses to provide small discounts to customers that make use of their own recyclable bags as opposed to traditional non recyclable plastic bags. Local businesses display a BYOB sticker in their store, indicating to customers their participation in the program.
