Life Enhancement Through Education in Music (LETEM)

The Problem

We believe that being involved in band has changed our lives. However, we realized that music programs are often expensive, and some kids didn't have the same opportunities to be involved that we did. We think it's tragic that kids have to turn down music because they can't afford it, because music can have huge effects on the lives of young people, including raising SAT scores and promoting key character values like dedication. We endeavored to bring music to every interested child in our area.

Plan of Action

LETEM collects donations of instruments from the public, repairs them through a unique partnership with a local music repair store, and distributes them back to worthy applicants. We spread the word to get donations and receive applications by appearing on local news, in newspapers, and building a strong social media following. We communicate with music teachers around our area, and sometimes donate instruments to a school's music program so the instrument can help lots of kids participate.
