The Problem

1 in 5 people who have HIV do not know it. Every hour 2 teens (13-24 years of age) become infected with HIV. Miami is #1 in the U.S. for new HIV cases. Despite these alarming statistics, HIV/AIDS is a disease not discussed openly in the South Florida community, and so it continues to spread due to lack of education, awareness, and misconceptions. Our mission is to keep the issue of HIV/AIDS at the forefront of public health discussion. One way we intend to do so is by ensuring young people have access to accurate and complete information regarding reproductive health.

Plan of Action

Due to the lack of resources on campus, A Week 4 Life, hopes to establish a condom accessibility campaign at the University of Miami. This consists of having condoms, lubricants, and resources conveniently available to students in the dormitories. Accompanying the placement of baskets of condoms placed in communal bathrooms, we also hope to develop a series of workshops, entitled Safer Sex is Sexy, to host for residential floors.
